Be plain about what this means: if you are travelling with young children, or you would like to sleep past 9am on a Saturday in July, Dewey is a poor choice. That is not a knock on the town — it is doing exactly what it sets out to do, and doing it well. It is just a specific thing.
There is one genuine upside people miss. Because most of Dewey's visitors came for the nightlife and are not early risers, the beach itself is noticeably less crowded during the day than Rehoboth's. If you want quiet sand in the morning and do not mind noise at night, that trade can work in your favour.
Rehoboth is the all-rounder
Rehoboth covers considerably more ground and is more upscale on average. It has the boardwalk, a strong restaurant scene, walkable shopping, and enough range that a mixed group can all find something.
It is also, despite Dewey's reputation, the town with more nightlife overall — simply because it is bigger. Dewey's is more concentrated and rowdier; Rehoboth's is broader and spread across more venues.
