Lists of birthday freebies tend to run to 100 or 300 entries, and a lot of those entries are out of date by the time you read them. Loyalty programs change their birthday rewards often, some franchise locations opt out, and a few of the most famous offers now come with conditions most lists never mention.
This guide covers a smaller set of well-known programs instead, with birthday terms taken from each company's own pages as of September 17, 2026, plus the rules that trip people up across almost all of them.
How birthday freebies work
Nearly every birthday reward follows the same pattern. You join a free loyalty program, add your date of birth to your profile, and a reward appears in the app or your inbox around your birthday.
Timing is where people lose out. Most programs need your birthday on file before the reward is issued, some need it weeks ahead, and at least one needs a purchase first. Sign up for everything on your birthday morning and you'll get very little.

Starbucks
According to the Starbucks Rewards terms, members get one free handcrafted drink, food item or ready-to-drink bottled beverage for their birthday. The conditions are strict: join at least seven days before your birthday, have your birthday in your account, and make at least one Star-earning purchase before your birthday each year.
The redemption window depends on your level. Green members must use it on the day itself, Gold members get seven days, and Reserve members get 30. Multi-serve items, alcoholic drinks, merchandise and packaged coffee are excluded, so you can't turn it into a bag of beans.
Sephora
Sephora's Beauty Insider members at every tier can pick a birthday gift. Its 2026 announcement says redemption is free in Sephora stores and Sephora at Kohl's, and on Kohls.com, while ordering it on Sephora.com needs a $25 minimum purchase.
If you don't want the product, you can take 250 Beauty Insider points instead, but only in store at Sephora, Sephora at Kohl's or on Kohls.com.
Ulta Beauty
Ulta's rewards FAQ lists two birthday perks. Members get 2x bonus points on qualifying purchases throughout their birthday month, and a coupon for a birthday gift sent by email or through the app. The gift is available while supplies last, so redeem it early in the month rather than the last week.
Platinum and Diamond members get an extra birthday perk on top, with details sent by email or in the app.
Chipotle
Chipotle relaunched its rewards program in April 2026. The announcement says members now choose their birthday reward from guac, queso, chips or a fountain drink, and get a 30-day window to use it. A month to redeem makes it one of the easier rewards to use.
Baskin-Robbins
The Baskin-Robbins FAQ says birthday coupons are added automatically to your account in the BR app on your birthday. You need an account with a completed profile, and you must be 13 or older to join.
The company also says most US shops accept Birthday Club rewards, but not all, and suggests calling your local shop first.
Rules that decide whether you get free birthday stuff
Get your birthday into every profile at least a month ahead. Starbucks needs you signed up a week before, and other programs issue rewards on their own schedule, so a late sign-up can mean waiting a year.
Starbucks also won't issue the reward to a member who hasn't made a Star-earning purchase that year, which catches people who joined only for the free drink.
Redemption windows vary more than you'd expect, from a single day for Starbucks Green members to 30 days for Chipotle. The short ones belong in your calendar.
Before driving to a Baskin-Robbins, call the shop, since the company says not every location takes its rewards.
Watch for minimum purchases, too. Sephora's gift is free in store but needs a $25 order online, and plenty of so-called free birthday stuff comes with a similar condition.
Protect your inbox and your data
Birthday freebies cost you something: your contact details, your birthday and marketing emails. A few habits limit the damage.
Use a separate email address for loyalty programs, so promotional mail doesn't bury anything important. Unsubscribe from marketing emails once the reward arrives, if the program allows it without losing the benefit. And skip the birth year if a form lets you, since a birthday reward only needs the month and day.
Plan the day so the rewards don't go to waste
If you want to stack several birthday freebies, map them out. Coffee first thing, since Starbucks Green members can only redeem on the day. Save the beauty gifts for later in your birthday month, when the Sephora and Ulta windows are still open. Use Chipotle's 30-day window for a lunch you'd have bought anyway.
